American Billy Janniro took victory in the Monster Energy Invitational event last night in California after the he fended off 2011 World Champion Greg Hancock in the final.

The event started with wins for Venegas, Wells, Nicholls and Novratill in the opening four races with eventual winner Janniro running a second in Heat 1. Gino Manzares then wiped out Fredrik Lindgren in Heat 5 with both riders walking away from the incident although they opted out of the re run to recover from their respective blows as Britain's Scott Nicholls made it two wins out of two.

Ricky Wells continued his good form in Heat 7 with a solid victory over two time SGP winner Antonio Lindback and former Wolverhampton reserve Tyson Burmeister. Edward Kennett bounced back from a disappointing last place in his opening ride to win Heat 7, then Hancock led home a star studded Heat 8 line up which featured three past world champions.

A further win for Wells in Heat 9 put him in good shape for a semi final spot as fellow American Billy Janniro also notched up his first win in Heat 11 over Hans Andersen. Jimmy Fishback was then withdrawn from the meeting after a crash in Heat 12 which was eventually won by Hamill over Lindback.

The three American's of Wells, Hancock and Janniro remained on top of their game in the fourth round of races with wins and Kennett also won putting him in a positive position.

Bryan Yarrow won Heat 17 ahead of Grand Prix competition including Hans Andersen and former World under 21 Champion Maciej Janowski. Venegas won Heat 18 ahead of Nicholls and then back to back American wins for Hamill and Janniro proved popular with the strong Californain crowd.

Semi Final 1 saw Hamill and the impressive Ricky Wells progress as they finished ahead of both Venegas and Kennett. Semi Final 2 also saw the progression of two American's as Janniro and Hancock joined the all American final line up.

In the final 32 year old Billy Janniro managed to keep Hancock behind him to win the event and complete a great night for American speedway as the nation packed out the podium with Janniro winning ahead of Hancock, Wells and Billy Hamill.
