RUNNER UP AT PLRC!
Location:
Date: 08/09/2015
Time:

Workington number 1, Ricky Wells, finished as runner-up in the 2015 PLRC, held at Sheffield's Owlerton race-way Sunday.

Having picked up 9 points from his five qualifying races Ricky was in fifth place overall, which meant he had qualified for the four-man semi-final, from which two would progress to the Grand Final.

This brought together Edward Kennett (Rye House) on gate 1, Josh Grajczonek (Somerset) on gate 2, Ricky on gate 3 and Redcar's Jonas B Andersen on the outside gate.

However, before the green light came on, Kennett shed a chain, which earned him an exclusion for exceeding the 2-minute time allowance, after which Ricky followed Josh home to book his place in the final along with automatic qualifiers Ulrich Ostergaard and Craig Cook.

In the final they lined up as follows: Gate 1 Ulrich Ostergaard, Gate 2 Craig Cook, Gate 3 Josh Grajczonek and on the outside, Gate 4, Ricky Wells - making it THREE former Comets and ONE current Comet in the final.

When the tapes rose Ostergaard led from start to finish while Cook and Grajczonek hindered each other on the first turn, which allowed Ricky to nip up the inside of them and snatch second place.

As the race progressed third placed Craig Cook gave chase, and closed the gap on lap three, although a bold move on turns 1 and 2 of the final lap didn't pay off as he locked up slightly and lost much of his speed.

This gave Ricky the opportunity to pull away and finish as runner-up behind Ostergaard, with Cook coming home in third place (see rostrum photo above).

Final Result:
1st Ulrich Ostergaard (Peterborough)
2nd Ricky Wells (Workington)
3rd Craig Cook (Edinburgh)
4th Josh Grajczonek (Somerset)
